SOUTH AIKEN HOOPS EMBRACES YOUTH
Children of all ages turned out this week at South Aiken High School to participate in a skills and fundamentals camp. 
The camp was held all week at the school and had children from kindergarten to ninth-graders attending. Hosted by South Aiken boys' basketball head coach Kelly Nichols, the camp focused on teaching those in attendance the basics of basketball.

SENIORS GO OUT ON A HIGH NOTE, DOWN MIDLAND VALLEY
Friday, February 13, 2009 (Aiken, SC) - On a night that had emotion written all over it, the South Aiken Boy's Basketball team was able overcome a strong Midland Valley team 52-47.

They night began with a heartbreaking lose by the Lady Thoroughbreds followed by Senior Night festivities. The Thoroughbreds honored Seniors Archie Adams, Jimmy Ellis and Harry Shuler in front of one of the best crowds of the year.

The game had post season implications with both teams coming in at 5-4 in the region and both fighting for the 3rd seed in the region.

A slow start by both teams kept the score low through half, 18-14 South Aiken. South Aiken was able to put the game away with a 21 point fourth quarter.

The Thoroughbreds were led by Cody Stephens with 14, While Gerald Bryant added 11 by going 7-8 form the free throw line.

South Aiken finishes the regular season with an 11-14 record after a 2-8 start. They finish the season tied for second in the region with a 6-4 record.

South Aiken will begin post season play next Tuesday at the number 2 seed of Region 8. That will either be North Charleston or Battery Creek.




SOUTH AIKEN FALLS AT SWANSEA
Wednesday, February 11, 2009 (Aiken, SC) - South Aiken got tripped up by Swansea for the second time this year, falling 58-47. The lose prevents the Thoroughbreds from hosting a home game in the post season next week, and guarantees a second place finish for Swansea.

South Aiken falls to 10-14 overall and 5-4 in the conference.

They will resume action this Thursday against Midland Valley. It is Senior Night and the last home game for the Thoroughbreds. Midland Valley comes into the game at 5-4 in the conference as well. The winner will be the finish 3rd in the region while the loser will finish 4th.

Game time is 7:30 with the senior festivities starting at 7 p.m. Three Senior Thoroughbreds will be honored: Archie Adams, Jimmy Ellis and Harry Shuler.




SOUTH AIKEN MOVES INTO 2ND PLACE TIE WITH WIN OVER AIRPORT
Friday, February 6, 2008 (Aiken, SC) - The South Aiken Thoroughbreds moved into a 2nd place tie with Swansea in the AAA-Region 5 with a 63-56 win over the Eagles of Airport High School.

The win puts South Aiken at 5-3 in the region, and moved them into a tie for 2nd place with Midland Valley's (4-4) double overtime win at Swansea (5-3). 

South Aiken travels to Swansea Tuesday and hosts Midland Valley on Thursday (Senior Night) to close out the regular season.
